The Three Pillars Initiative (TPI) educates high school juniors and seniors in the art, science, and business of community philanthropy using the Project-Based Learning method to provide real-life experiences in fundraising, grantmaking and volunteerism. Utilizing TPI’s comprehensive curriculum taught by trained adult community mentors, TPI has replicated the inaugural program, launched in Oak Park, Illinois in 2010, by establishing 12 affiliate programs in 7 states since 2020.
According to a 5-year research study conducted by the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at Indiana University (2024),TPI graduates ranked higher on all youth engagement criteria compared to the national norm, 100% higher on some indicators.
TPI is currently expanding the number of affiliate programs in communities throughout the United States so that more teens can apply the significant philanthropy leadership skills they gain into adulthood.
